How do task lists work with the Confluence 4.3 Inbuilt task lists?

I can't seem to find any relationship between the Tasks created in the Workflows and Tasks created on the page by the new {tasklist} macro.

Also the tasks assigned to me by Ad Hoc Workflows don't appear in my notifications tray.

What is the integration between these two lists.

If there is no integration, is it planned? Or how do I disable the Ad Hoc Workflows tasks altogether.

There is also this question on Answers that is sort of similar, but the opposite direction. https://answers.atlassian.com/questio...

I see on this topic http://community.comalatech.com/comal... you have said that you will integrate it at some stage. Any update on when that will be and what the functionality will be?

    Hi Jodie,

As far as I understand the notes at the bottom of https://confluence.atlassian.com/disp... the new Confluence 4.3 tasks are not linked with the {tasklist} macro.

Regarding Ad hoc Workflow tasks, they are currently not integrated with Confluence Notifications or with the new Confluence tasks. Ad hoc Workflows 3.3 does have some workflow integration with Confluence Notifications for approval assignments and some watcher notifications.

We are looking at integrating Ad hoc Workflows Tasks with Confluence tasks in a future version, however we are still determining the best way to integrate the two together, particularly for in-state tasks that are used as part of a workflow.

For general tasks used outside of workflows, as Confluence 4.3+ now supports this functionality, these will likely be replaced by Confluence tasks at some point in the future(at least for versions of Confluence that have built in tasks). This is to avoid confusion coming from duplication of built in Confluence functionality. Or as we need some integration for our in-state tasks, we may decide to fully integrate Ad hoc Workflows general tasks as well with Confluence tasks, basically providing just an alternative view to Confluence tasks.

We are currently in the process of putting together a client survey to determine how tasks are currently being used(among other things) which will likely impact how we decide to proceed.

For disabling Ad hoc Workflows tasks, they can be disabled by disabling the "Add Ad-hoc task" plugin module.

    Thanks,
    Miguel

    Hi Miguel
Thanks for the lengthy and informative reply.
I really do hope you merge your Tasks and do the notifications via Workbox rather than dropping it altogether. There are a few reasons.

    1. The tasks are not on the page, they are about the page. That is quite a different paradigm than Confluence Tasks
    2. Your Note function and audit function of all changes to the Tasks is way superior than Confluence's at the moment.
    3. Confluence tasks have some issues and it's still a bit half baked.
    4. There is no way of seeing a user's Task list, like you can with your Task list on the user's profile.

I have started a spreadsheet to compare the differences between the task functionality as I am trying to work out the best strategy for my client starting out with Confluence right now. It is really difficult and I really don't have a clear cut answer yet.

Hopefully this comparison will help with deciding how the integration will work. But I will be very happy to do the survey.

    Hi Jodie,

    Thanks for you feedback.

Yes, you have hit the nail on the head: Ad hoc Workflow's tasks are about pages.

Indeed a different paradigm from Atlassian, and there is use for both approaches.

We are working on the next version of Ad hoc Workflows which will integrate Tasks about Pages with personal tasks.

We're also making big usability changes so people will be able to distinguish what they're dealing with.

We will keep you posted and will be sharing an early version as soon as it becomes available.

    Roberto

This feature has now been released in Ad-hoc workflows Version 4 - this is great, I hope to check out the functionality soon.

I have Ad-hoc workflows version 4.1 running on the newest version of Confluence 5.2.1 and this task is NOT released. Not a single task from my Ad hoc Workflows shows up in the Confluence workbox, ever. Tis a shame.

  • Hi,

workflow page tasks that you create for yourself will not show up in the Confluence workbox notification tray. However if you create a task and assign this task to someone else a notification will appear in this user's workbox notification tray.
